HOW IT ALL STARTED…

After serving the wedding and event industry for a decade, our team knew the wedding industry was changing. Many more couples were experiencing life out of traditional sequence; children came before marriage, careers took an entire decade to study for, houses were purchased early, and travel was more important than ever. We also noticed that values were changing rapidly.

Couples were less and less interested in old, stuffy traditions that didn’t feel authentic to their daily lives. They were embracing the sharing economy, using technology that simplified their lives, and saying no to brands and companies that didn’t model corporate or social responsibility. The wedding industry needed to provide an answer to this changing shift in values and needs.

OUR STORY

The Pop-Up Chapel Co. was born when we explored how the sharing economy could be applied to weddings. We were committed to filling the white space between a city hall wedding and a traditional banquet hall wedding with hundreds of guests. In August 2017, we executed our first chapel at The Drake Hotel in Toronto, Ontario and it sold out in 3 weeks. In fact, it oversold! We knew we were onto something.

Since 2017, The Pop-Up Chapel Co. has executed over 50 Chapels, married over 500 couples and raised over $100k for local charities. We’re actively expanding across North America working with local Brand Ambassadors to bring our events to couples everywhere.

OUR MISSION

We are a self-proclaimed ambitious bunch! Our dream is that by the end of 2024, we’ll have married 600 couples, raised over $150K collectively for local charities and are completely single use plastic free. We are getting there! We also aim to be the most inclusive way to wed, hoping that our marketing materials represent the true fabric of people we see in North America and attracts couples and lovers of all kinds.

As it stands, our Chapels are currently incredibly sustainable having 10 couples share and create less waste than is traditionally made from one couple’s wedding. We partner with local wedding planners, rental companies and retail stores to use, upcycle and recycle previous wedding decor and window displays. We remain dedicated to donating a minimum of $200 from the sale of every Chapel spot sold to charity.

Through our unwavering dedication to socially conscious consumerism and event planning, we believe and hope that we’re creating a new way for couples to get married that they can feel great about; AND that we can feel great about planning and sharing with the world.
