How to apply for a Marriage License

TORONTO - APPLICATION STEPS

  1. Review the requirements for a marriage license.

  2. Apply for your Marriage License online. Note the application number upon completion.

  3. Book an appointment online to obtain your marriage license, ensuring that all names and application numbers match. Don’t forget to print a copy of the appointment permit.

  4. Both partners must sign and date the application.

  5. Go to Registry Services and submit the following:

    ✦ A printed copy of the appointment permit, from the online booking
    ✦ The completed and signed marriage application
    ✦ Two pieces of valid, government issued identification for each partner (please read over the proper identification requirements)
    ✦ Divorce documentation, if applicable

  4. Go to Registry Services and submit the following:

    You can apply without your partner if:
    ✦ Each person has signed the application

How to apply for a Certificate of Marriage

1.Your officiant will send the paperwork through the provincial system so you will be officially registered.

2. Once registered, mark three months from your wedding day on the calendar to apply for your Certificate of Marriage from the Service Ontario website.

3. At the three months mark, visit www.ontario.ca/page/how-get-copy-ontario-marriage-certificate-online, request the short form certificate and apply to get your certificate in the mail.
