OUR VALUES: INCLUSIVITY

At The Pop-Up Chapel Co., everything we do follows our five key values; sustainability, simplicity, inclusivity, social consciousness, and evolution. Over the next several weeks, we’re going to explore what those mean and how we bring them to life for each and every Chapel. In this blog, we will be talking about inclusivity, why it is so integral to us, and the steps we are taking to create a more equitable marriage landscape for all.

It would be amiss to ignore that the wedding industry, and in fact the institution of marriage itself, has a long history of exclusivity. As Canadians we tend to count ourselves as an exception to this; however, it’s important to remember that the first legal same-sex marriage in Canada took place less than two decades ago, in 2003 (and it wasn’t until 2005 that it was legalized in every Province). This is not that long ago! Despite these legal strides, a poll conducted in 2019 showed that 1 in 4 Canadians oppose full same-sex marriage rights. The battle for equality is not over, there is still work to be done. The Pop-Up Chapel Co. is dedicated to helping create a more accepting and inclusive marriage landscape for all!

To us, inclusivity encompasses many different facets. First and foremost our goal is to provide a safe space for couples of every race, age, religion, ability, gender, sexual orientation, and identity to say “I Do”. We believe that everyone should be able to celebrate their unique love out loud, surrounded by those closest to them. The Pop-Up Chapel Co. aims to increase representation in the wedding industry and we are committed to using our platform to show off all of the diverse, beautiful couples that reflect our diverse, beautiful communities!

Another way that the Chapel embodies inclusivity is though financial accessibility. In Canada, the average wedding costs nearly $30,000 dollars. Getting married at The Pop-Up Chapel Co. costs around a tenth of that (starting at $2499+ tax)! We believe that there shouldn’t be a financial barrier to having a beautiful, memorable wedding day. Keeping the Chapel experience affordable and accessible to couples is a priority for us. We want to welcome everyone into the Chapel and make them feel special and well taken care of.

If you’re looking for an inclusive space to get married book your spot at an upcoming Chapel today!
