Toronto City Hall Weddings Are Pausing in 2027. Here’s Your Beautiful In Between.

If you were planning to say "I do" at Toronto City Hall next year, first things first: we're sending you the biggest hug. 💛

At the end of October, the City shared that wedding ceremonies at Toronto City Hall will pause starting January 1, 2027. The company that has run the City Hall wedding chamber for more than 30 years is moving out, and the City has major renovations planned for the building. Every ceremony already booked for 2026 is still going ahead, but 2027 weddings won't be happening there. (CP24)

City Hall has been the backdrop for so many love stories, and a lot of 2027 couples are now asking the same question: so where do we get married? Let's walk through it together.

If your City Hall date was in 2027

A few practical things to know:

  • 2026 weddings are still on. If your ceremony is booked for this year, it goes ahead as planned.

  • Reach out to the provider about your deposit. The City says the wedding chamber provider handled its own bookings and deposits, so they're the ones to contact.

  • The City still offers civil ceremonies. Old City Hall hosts 30 minute civil weddings by appointment for up to 25 people, and the City also has wedding chambers at the North York, Scarborough and York Civic Centres. (City of Toronto)

  • You'll still need an Ontario marriage licence, wherever you say your vows.

If a quick legal ceremony is exactly what you want, those options are there for you. And if this news has you wondering whether you'd love a little more than that, keep reading. 😉

Hi, we're the in between

We've been here since 2017, and we started with one simple idea: there is so much beauty in the in between. Between the full scale wedding with a year of planning and a giant guest list, and a quick ceremony at City Hall, there's room for something that feels completely like you.

That's where The Pop-Up Chapel Co. lives. We design a gorgeous chapel, line up the vendors and handle the details, so you can walk in, say "I do" surrounded by your people, and walk out married and glowing. Big I do, small to do list.

Since 2017 we've married 850+ couples across Canada, popping up in Toronto, Ottawa, Prince Edward County, Wakefield and Vancouver. We've donated over $200K to local charities along the way, and we are proudly 2SLGBTQ+ affirming, always.

Why couples choose us over City Hall

We went back through years of notes from couples who reached out to us (inquiries, feedback forms and the love notes in our inbox), and when City Hall came up, a few things showed up again and again.

They wanted more than signing papers, without the big fuss. The line we kept seeing was some version of "we don't want to just do City Hall." These couples weren't looking for a huge wedding. They wanted their marriage to feel like a celebration, with music, flowers, photos and a toast, and they didn't want to spend a year planning it.

Stress free came first. When we asked couples what matters most on their wedding day, 70% said keeping it stress free and 59% said staying on budget. Beautiful design, gorgeous photos and a day that feels like "us" were right behind. A chapel day checks every one of those boxes.

They wanted their people there. The most common dream we hear about is a small celebration with family. Our packages start with 10 guests included and grow to 50 and beyond, so Grandma, your best friend and your chosen family all get a seat.

  • The Classic ($5,999): warm and social, two hours with 20 guests included (up to 40), plus photography, a legal officiant, live ceremony music, personal flowers, a toast and snacks.

  • The Party Spot ($10,999 + tax): high vibe and fun, our most popular package, with 30 guests included, a charcuterie spread and an open bar.

And every wedding comes with a donation to a local charity, because love should ripple out. 💕
