CHAPEL RECAP: JULY 21ST & 22ND, 2022

Our last Chapel at The Globe and Mail Centre in 2022 went out with a bang! Sporting stunning sunset views, a gorgeous colour palette, and luxurious draped material accents, the July 21st and 22nd Chapel did not disappoint. To say this minimal, high-scale Chapel was modern luxury would be an understatement! The Globe and Mail has been one of our go-to venue partners since 2020 and we are extremely honoured to have been able to host and marry over 75 couples in this space since that time. Each of our Chapels there has been so memorable and the July 21/22 Chapel was no exception.

Together with our photographers, Frances Rose West, Alicia Thurston, Rachael Reid, Boeun Kim & Rita Kravchuk, we captured 17 of our amazing couples tying the knot to the backdrop of sun rays and cityscape at this prestigious Toronto-based venue. We could not be more thankful for each of them putting their trust in our team to deliver them the wedding day of their dreams. Each of the couples smiled brightly while reciting their vows, standing against a bold and modern sunburst silhouette. The clusters of deep pink, red, and bright yellow florals, created by Snowberry Botanicals, brought instant vibrancy to the decor making the space warm and inviting. The sounds of laughter, joy, and cheering - even more so!

On day 1, each of the 9 Chapel purchases contributed to a generous donation to Rainbow Railroad! Rainbow Railroad is a global NPO that helps members of the LGTBQI+ community who are facing persecution based on their sexual orientation, gender identity and sex characteristics. We feel so honoured to have supported Rainbow Railroad as it aligns with our Core Value of inclusivity. We believe that everyone should be able to celebrate their unique love out loud, and that the right to marriage should never be taken away. The Pop-Up Chapel Co. is committed to using our platform to support all of the diverse, beautiful couples that reflect our diverse, beautiful communities!

During day 2, we welcomed back 8 more Chapel couples and got to witness even more precious moments between loved ones. With each Chapel ceremony we host, we always ensure that our officiants pay respect to the land we reside on through land acknowledgements. Although we can appreciate the beauty of The Toronto skyline, we know that the land we reside on belonged to native communities and the act of performing a land acknowledgement is a very basic and fundamental step towards reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. Water First is a Canadian based charity dedicated to addressing water inequality in Indigenous communities. They work by educating indigenous youth and the community on the water crisis and creating opportunities for students to strengthen their relationship with the environment, and foster a love of education and water science.

While each of these couples said ‘I do’, behind the scenes, our team busied ourselves prepping toasts and treats from our trusted vendors to serve out to friends and loved ones. Guests sipped on Lakeview Wines and Steam Whistle brews while kids ran around munching on the ever-tasty Courage Cookies. On top of that, many of our couples enjoyed slicing into the adorable cutting cakes prepared by Kwento. Each cake featured small icing florets matching the colour scheme for an elegant yet playful touch.

Those who chose to take advantage of our live music add-on had the bonus experience of extra time with The Toronto Jazz Collective. One of the most notable moments from the July 22nd Chapel was with our couple Katy and David; they were treated to an impromptu TJC acoustic set on the patio. Katy and David were able to have their first dance, and a couple after, amongst their family and friends in the fading sunlight. It was really something special!

Thanks again to our amazing vendors and team for making this 2 day Chapel so very exceptional, and a huge thank you to The Globe and Mail Centre for the many moments of joy you have brought our couples over the years of partnering with us.
