CHAPEL RECAP: NOVEMBER 6, 2022

Our second last Chapel of the year, and we were excited to be heading back to Ottawa!

On November 6th we married 5 rad couples at one of our favourite venues, Umbrella Bar. This space is an urban oasis tucked into the Dows Lake Pavilion away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. It’s modern and chic, and did we forget to mention that it has an incredible patio with a lakefront view?! Sign. Me. Up.

This venue is already such an effortlessly cool space, so our team decided to build off its present vibe. Built into the space is a gorgeous white stone fireplace which naturally we used as our ceremony backdrop. Acrylic shapes created by Ruby and Parcel Co. in blues, clears, white and frosted tones were used to create structures which flanked the fireplace, all of differing heights to give an asymmetrical look. To pull the ceremony backdrop together florals by the talented Capital Florist were built growing from the acrylic structures and cascading over the ledges of the fireplace. The blues really popped against the white and immediately we were obsessed.

With the ceremony backdrop and cocktail hour space set, bar stocked with refreshing non-alcoholic beverages from Drink Viveau, cold beer from Steam Whistle Beer and crisp wine from Lakeview Wine Co., and of course delicious bites from Courage Cookies and Purplesful Popcorn, we were ready to welcome in the guests as they watched teary eyed as their loved ones say “I do”. Each ceremony was officiated by the wonderful Tom Watson and couples were serenaded with the sweet tunes from Marianne Lin on the harp. For any guests that couldn’t attend in person, they got to watch virtually via live streaming from Two Rings Video. It wouldn’t be a Chapel without the most on theme cakes by The Cake Shop making for an adorable photo moment as couples cut into their delicious cakes in flavours like salted caramel and blueberry lemon.

For this Chapel we supported One Tree Planted - this organization works to restore forests, create habitat for biodiversity, and make a positive social impact around the world. During our drive from Toronto to Ottawa to help our 5 wonderful couples get hitched, we were able to appreciate all of the beautiful scenery and landscape we have in Ontario, that we so often take for granted. We are thrilled to be able to spread a seed of change as we donated a total of $1200 to one tree planted and theirs efforts to restore our earth’s biodiversity! Since 2014 they have planted over 40 million trees in more than 47 countries across the globe and we’re excited to contribute to that incredible accomplishment.

And that wraps up our time in YOW for 2022. See you in a few months Ottawa!
