CHAPEL RECAP: JULY 27 & 28, 2023

PUC goes to YOW!

This past July our team popped up in Ottawa where 8 couples eloped at The Knox - a historic venue for modern love.

Once upon a time, The Knox was a small Merrickville churched, but has since been repurposed to a bright and airy event venue. The Knox provides a delightful indoor and sprawling outdoor space, perfect for any wedding vision one might have.

Centred around the original windows of the venue, the Pop-Up Chapel team designed a gothic inspired Chapel. Using wire pillars and dark cheese cloth, we kept the airy feel, while creating a stark contrast to the white walls and natural light. Capital Florist supported our vision with similarly contrasting floral installations. They used light blooms, set dark purple and deep green branches, tying all the elements of decor together. Each couple received tailored personal florals, also provided by Capital Florist

Over two days, Tom Watson officiated all 8 couples as they entered into wedded bliss. Tom brings a simple and wise approach to his ceremonies that focuses couples and guests alike on the importance of the occasion.

We had the unique opportunity, for this Chapel, to enjoy the talent of Marianne Lin. Marianne is a local harpist, who plucked on our heart strings and truly elevated the experience for everyone who came through the doors.

To memorialize each moment, we had Flims by Jinbon for our videography needs, as well as Enas Photography, Hilary Maxwell Photography, and Sarah Dja Photography on photo duty. They each captured the day with their own sweet style, and gave 8 new couples something to cherish forever.

Once it was sealed with a kiss, the brides and grooms enjoyed a toast of Fresh Wines and we invited the guests to grab a beverage from the bar. As they mingled and gave heir best wishes, friends and family sipped on their choice of wine, Shiny Apple Cider, Steam Whistle, or Gruvi and snacked on the always popular Courage Cookies and Purplesful Popcorn. And to finish off on a sweet note, Violets on Main provided classy white cutting cakes to match the classy bright setting.

As always the Pop-Up Chapel couples each donated to a charitable cause, but for this 2 day Chapel, we chose to give to TWO charities. The couples Married on July 27th contributed to Canadian Blood Services, which provides the connections between donors and patients. They are responsible for a system of essentials for transfusion and transplantation that is sustainable, reliable, and accessible to Canadians.

The following day, Chapel couples gave to Pathways to Education, a program working to break the cycle of poverty through education. The program’s holistic combination of academic, financial, social, and one-on-one supports is proven to remove barriers to graduation and promote positive youth development during critical high school years.

Interested in eloping outside of Toronto? The Chapel will be popping up all over Ontario in 2024!
